COURSE DESCRIPTION
The purpose of the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (RQF) is to develop the knowledge and skills required by managers and leaders in the sector. Learners will already be employed in the sector.
Achieving the qualification should enable learners to innovate and respond to a changing environment and to meet challenges and opportunities within the sector. The qualification is a combined knowledge and competence component of the Higher Apprenticeship in Care Leadership and Management – Level 5 (England) but can be taken outside of the apprenticeship framework.

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN QUALIFICATION?
- Learners can choose from several pathways within adult services or children and young people’s services with optional units to allow the learning to be tailored to a wide range of roles.
- The mandatory units cover communication, equality and diversity, professional development, health and safety, partnership working and a research project.
- There is a choice of pathways with a wide range of options available within each to enable the learning to be tailored to the development needs of the individual.

Required minimum age is 19 years.
PROGRESSION
Successful learners can progress to other qualifications such as:-
- Portfolio of evidence
STRUCTURE/ RULE OF COMBINATION:
Learners must achieve a minimum of 90 credits to achieve the Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (RQF). Learners must achieve 30 credits from Group A mandatory units and the remaining credits from one of the pathways:
- Children and Young People’s Residential Management
- Children and Young People’s Management
- Children and Young People’s Advanced Practice
- Adults’ Residential Management
- Adults’ Management
- Adults’ Advanced Practice

WHAT IS INCLUDED IN QUALIFICATION?
Successful learners can progress to further qualifications within the social care sector or other parts of the sector, for example moving from adults’ advanced practice to adults’ residential management or to the Children and Young People’s Workforce sector or the Health sector, completing additional sector and job-relevant units within the diploma. Learners may also use the qualification for entry, credit transfer or advanced standing for a qualification higher education institution. Learners may also progress to other specific job roles such as:
- Care manager
- Officers in charge/registered manager
- Day services manager
