The Level 4 NVQ Diploma in Advice and Guidance (QCF) develops the skills, knowledge and understanding to work in advice and guidance.
The qualification develops competence therefore you need to be in voluntary or paid work in the sector in order for assessment to take place.
There are no specific entry requirements however you should have a minimum of Level two in literacy and numeracy or equivalent and be able to work at level 3 or above. What is included in the qualification?
TYPE OF ASSESSMENT
This qualification is assessed through activities which are developed by the centre, internally marked and sampled as part of quality assurance/ internal verification procedures.
WHAT COULD THE QUALIFICATION LEAD TO
The qualification is supported by centres, Skills for Justice as the interim Sector Skills Council for the Learning & Development sector and employers.
Portfolio of evidence which includes observation of workplace.
You must achieve a minimum of 37 credits:17 credits from the mandatory units and a minimum of 20 credits from the optional units. At least 19 credits must be at level 4 or above.
- Mandatory Units – 17 credits must be achieved from this Unit;
- Optional Units – 20 credits must be achieved from this Unit; and
- At least 19 credits must be achieved from level 4 or above.

- Careers advice
- Customer service
- Employment advice
- Housing support
- Learning Support
- Legal Services Support
WHAT ARE THE PRIMARY AND OTHER PURPOSES /OUTCOMES?
The primary purpose of the qualification is to confirm occupational competence in a job role in the advice and guidance sector. The intended outcomes are to give you the opportunity to develop and demonstrate your competence and skills .

- Level 4 Award in Skills in Evaluating Careers Guidance Programmes in a Learning Environment (QCF)
- Level 4 Certificate in Skills in Managing Careers Guidance in a Learning Environment (QCF)
- Level 4 Certificate in Career Advice and Guidance (QCF)
- Level 6 Diploma in Career Guidance and Development (QCF)
WHAT IS INCLUDED IN QUALIFICATION?
The qualification consists of mandatory and optional units. The mandatory units cover: interacting with clients, legislation and procedures, operating within networks, managing personal case load and evaluating and developing their own contribution to the service. There is also a range of optional units which will allow you to develop your skills in a range of areas chosen to suit your personal development and the needs of your job role.
